R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Fighting to Rid Gangs in America Foundation has
  been doing valuable work with youth of the Coastal Bend region since
  1995; and
         WHEREAS, Recognizing that poverty, drug abuse, teenage
  pregnancy, and other social problems may lead young people to gang
  membership or other behavioral problems, Corpus Christi attorney
  Rene Rodriguez and Justice Nelda V. Rodriguez created the Fighting
  to Rid Gangs in America Foundation to provide programs and
  structured activities for children at risk; and
         WHEREAS, The foundation offers children and indigent
  families a safe alternative to the streets through its center on
  Mary Street; facilities there include an art room where kids may
  express themselves through drawing and painting, a game room with
  pool and foosball tables, a computer lab with Internet access
  through 11 donated computers, a gymnasium with a full-size boxing
  ring and weight room, and a library; and
         WHEREAS, The foundation's community outreach programs
  include informative and educational presentations aimed at
  teaching life skills; topics include diabetes education, gang
  awareness, parenting skills, AIDS prevention, and learning to set
  goals and build self-esteem; available in both English and Spanish,
  these presentations are offered to schools, student clubs, parent
  groups, juvenile detention centers, and teacher workshops in
  Nueces, Duval, Brooks, Jim Wells, and Kleberg Counties; and
         WHEREAS, By providing activities and education for young
  people in need, the Fighting to Rid Gangs in America Foundation is
  making an invaluable contribution to the health, welfare, and
  safety of citizens of the Coastal Bend community, and it is most
  fitting that the organization be recognized for its many good
  works; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend the Fighting to Rid Gangs in America
  Foundation of Corpus Christi for its service to the community and
  extend to its staff and volunteers best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the foundation as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
