R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Jefferson County justice of the peace Ransom "Duce"
  Jones of Beaumont has teamed with community leaders, volunteers,
  and law enforcement officials to establish a truancy program called
  Community TIES; and
         WHEREAS, A former fire inspector, Judge Jones is serving his
  first term as justice of the peace, and the abundance of cases
  related to student truancy and chronic absenteeism has encouraged
  him to seek new solutions for this growing problem; and
         WHEREAS, Community TIES, which stands for Truancy Impacting
  Education Services, is designed to combat student truancy and
  absenteeism by providing students with the support they need to be
  successful in school; and
         WHEREAS, The program's volunteers are charged with
  overseeing students as they perform weekend community service,
  which is typically a task such as washing school buses; and
         WHEREAS, Parents, teachers, and caregivers have noticed
  positive changes among students who have been sentenced to
  community service, and Judge Jones is also considering beginning
  another program, Absent Student Assistance Program, to further this
  trend; and
         WHEREAS, In just a short time as justice of the peace, Judge
  Jones has instituted changes that have had a significant impact in
  the Beaumont community, and he is most deserving of special
  recognition for his contributions in this worthy effort; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Judge Ransom "Duce" Jones for his role in
  curbing truancy and chronic absenteeism among the students of
  Beaumont and commend him for his achievements in strengthening his
  community; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Judge Jones as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
