R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family, friends, and poetry lovers across the Lone
  Star State and beyond are mourning the loss of Wendy Dimmette of
  Dallas, who died on May 8, 2007, at the age of 82; and
         WHEREAS, Born on a ranch in a bend of the Red River near
  Dexter, Mrs. Dimmette grew up in Whitesboro; after graduating from
  high school and studying English at Southern Methodist University,
  she married and began a family with Jack Lindsey, who died in an
  automobile accident in 1956; and
         WHEREAS, In 1960, she married Dr. James Dimmette; returning
  to SMU, she completed her bachelor's degree in English when her
  youngest child was 10 years old and went on to earn a master's
  degree with a creative thesis in poetry at the age of 55; and
         WHEREAS, Her poetry has appeared in numerous literary
  magazines and been widely anthologized, earning her accolades from
  many readers and other poets; several volumes of her short-short
  stories have also been published and, under her own imprint,
  Mullulla, she authored seven children's books and five plays for
  young people, which were based on stories she had told her own kids;
  and
         WHEREAS, As generous a teacher as she was a gifted poet, she
  mentored many Texas writers and taught workshops at Eastfield and
  Richland Colleges; she was a member of a number of literary
  associations, including the Writer's Garrett, the Galaxy of Verse
  Literary Foundation, and the National Federation of State Poetry
  Societies; she served on the board of directors for the Poetry
  Society of Texas; and
         WHEREAS, Hailed by many as a classic Texas poet, Mrs.
  Dimmette was on a short list of candidates for the position of Texas
  poet laureate; written with a piercing directness, her poems evoke
  the simple beauty of the Texas landscape; as she once wrote, "others
  won't remember/a thousand years from now/how I walked this Texas
  prairie/gathering words/for their color and perfume . . . But I
  will know/it was I/who made this prairie bloom/with the scattered
  seeds/of words that fell/from the edges/of my imagination"; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life and art of Wendy Dimmette
  and extend sincere condolences to her family: to her husband, Dr.
  James Dimmette; to her sons, Ramsey Lindsey and Tom Lindsey; to her
  daughters, Hillary Lindsey, Susan Lindsey, and Dr. Wendy Dimmette;
  to her 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and to her
  other relatives and many friends and admirers; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Wendy
  Dimmette.
