R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Jack Maxwell of Abilene was commissioned to create
  the sculpture Jacob's Dream for the campus of Abilene Christian
  University in honor of the philanthropy of the late Grace L.
  Woodward and the Woodward family of Kerrville; and
         WHEREAS, The chair of the Department of Art and Design at ACU,
  Mr. Maxwell holds a bachelor's degree of fine art, a bachelor's
  degree in secondary art education, and a master's of fine art with
  an emphasis in sculpture, and he has exhibited his work in solo
  shows in Houston, Dallas, and Santa Fe, New Mexico; he was assisted
  on Jacob's Dream by his wife, Jill, a painter and illustrator, and
  by several ACU art students; and
         WHEREAS, The Woodward family has supported ACU since 1939,
  when Grace Woodward's husband, Harley Woodward, established the
  Harley Woodward Foundation for Christian Education; following Mrs.
  Woodward's death in 1997, her son Bob Woodward founded the Grace L.
  Woodward Memorial Endowment Trust with $26.5 million, one of the 10
  largest private gifts in the history of higher education in Texas;
  and
         WHEREAS, Jacob's Dream, weighing more than 7,000 pounds and
  standing over 30 feet tall, is a metal rendering of the biblical
  story often referred to as "Jacob's Ladder"; the evocative piece,
  which consists of four bronze angels, engraved scriptures, and a
  small baptismal pool, sits on the southeast lawn of the
  Onstead-Packer Biblical Studies Building; and
         WHEREAS, Jacob's Dream will serve to inspire the students,
  faculty, and staff of ACU for generations to come, and Jack Maxwell
  is indeed deserving of recognition for his remarkable talent and
  dedication; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Jack Maxwell for the creation of the
  sculpture Jacob's Dream and extend to him sincere best wishes for
  continued success with his work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Maxwell as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
