R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A successful sports leader who has long been part of
  the football program at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Richard
  Cundiff stepped down as head coach at the end of the 2006 season,
  concluding a distinguished 21-year career with the university; and
         WHEREAS, Coach Cundiff, who previously served as an assistant
  coach and defensive coordinator, guided the Javelinas to an
  impressive 52-28 record over the course of his seven years as head
  coach; during that time, the team won four Lone Star Conference
  championships and advanced to two NCAA semifinal games; and
         WHEREAS, Twice selected as LSC Coach of the Year, Richard
  Cundiff was just the seventh head coach in the school's 86-year
  history, and his .704 winning percentage ranks third all-time; he
  came to the university in 1985, having previously coached at the
  high school and collegiate levels for several years, including
  three years at Baylor University; and
         WHEREAS, Coach Cundiff earned his master's degree from
  Grambling State University, where he served as an assistant coach
  under the legendary Eddie Robinson, and he received his bachelor's
  degree from Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee; the Virginia
  native garnered all-state recognition in football, basketball,
  baseball, and track during his high school years, and he went on to
  play baseball and basketball in college; and
         WHEREAS, The players and staff at Texas A&M
  University-Kingsville will undoubtedly miss the coaching talents
  and strong leadership of this esteemed man, yet he has instilled in
  his team a commitment to teamwork and football fundamentals that
  has prepared them well for all future challenges; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize Coach Richard Cundiff for his service
  as head coach of the Javelinas football team of Texas A&M
  University-Kingsville and extend best wishes to him for continued
  success in all his endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Coach Cundiff as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
