R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Tiffany Vargas of Raymondville enjoyed a |
|
|
record-setting performance at the National Athlete Strength |
|
|
Association national powerlifting meet in Oklahoma City, winning |
|
|
the super heavyweight division title in dominating fashion; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The talented 17-year-old senior from Raymondville |
|
|
High School received the National Championship Most Outstanding |
|
|
Lifter Award after setting numerous records and leaving her closest |
|
|
competitors far behind; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Vargas broke the American and world teenage |
|
|
records with her squat lift of 584.22 pounds, while her bench press |
|
|
of 253.53 pounds established a new American mark and tied the world |
|
|
teenage record; the American record also fell after she lifted |
|
|
424.39 pounds in the deadlift, and her combined lift total of |
|
|
1,262.14 pounds also set new American and world teenage records; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The national success of this gifted young woman |
|
|
comes as no surprise to those who witnessed her performances at the |
|
|
Texas High School Women's Powerlifting Association regional and |
|
|
state meets; in the regional competition, she bench pressed 240 |
|
|
pounds and deadlifted 390 pounds, and her squat of 555 pounds and |
|
|
total lift of 1,185 pounds set new regional records; she went on to |
|
|
break state records for squat and total lift at the state meet, |
|
|
lifting 585 pounds and 1,230 pounds, respectively, and she improved |
|
|
on her regional performance with a 245-pound bench press and a |
|
|
410-pound deadlift; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Coached by Gerardo Villarreal, Ms. Vargas has |
|
|
competed in powerlifting for just two years, a fact that |
|
|
underscores her impressive strength and natural ability, as well as |
|
|
her admirable work ethic and the helpful support of her mother, |
|
|
Norma Montes; she is an inspiration to all who know her, and her |
|
|
achievements are indeed worthy of legislative recognition; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Tiffany Vargas on her regional, |
|
|
state, and national powerlifting championships and extend to her |
|
|
best wishes for continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Vargas as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
