R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Patriot Guard Riders are committed to honoring
  members of the nation's armed forces who have given their lives in
  this country's behalf; and
         WHEREAS, At the invitation of families who have lost loved
  ones, the PGR attends funerals and memorial services to show its
  respect for the fallen, their families, and their communities; PGR
  members also shield the families and their friends from
  interruptions created by any protestor or group of protestors, an
  objective the PGR accomplishes through nonconfrontational and
  nonviolent means; and
         WHEREAS, The PGR was formed in 2005, after several different
  groups of riders independently took the initiative to assist
  families of individuals who had died in Afghanistan or Iraq; today,
  the PGR includes veterans and nonveterans, riders and nonriders,
  and members representing a spectrum of political opinion; uniting
  all of these men and women is the common desire to pay tribute to our
  country's fallen heroes; and
         WHEREAS, The Patriot Guard Riders are performing a service of
  immeasurable value to families and communities who have lost
  treasured members of the armed forces, and Americans everywhere can
  find inspiration in the simple decency and goodness of this
  admirable organization; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend the Patriot Guard Riders for the
  heartfelt honor they are rendering to those who have fallen in
  military service to this nation and for the significant support
  they are providing to bereaved families and communities; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Patriot Guard Riders as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
