R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The 101st birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed
  cause for celebration, and John L. Oden of Houston is marking this
  special event on July 16, 2007; and
         WHEREAS, Born in 1906, Mr. Oden has led a life of
  distinguished service to others; he has given of his time and
  talents to the United Board of Missions and Center for Christian
  Service, and he has been a champion for the retired and the elderly
  through his work as a "senior" intern with United States Senator
  Lloyd Bentsen; named the Port Arthur Senior Citizen of the Year, he
  has further advocated for this special population as an appointee
  to the State White House Conference on Aging by the South East Texas
  Regional Planning Commission; and
         WHEREAS, A veteran of the Texas State Guard, Mr. Oden has been
  widely recognized for his efforts, earning commendations from the
  Jefferson County Criminal District Attorney's Office, the Texas
  Departments of Aging, Human Resources, and Public Welfare, and the
  Jefferson County Civil Defense Program; and
         WHEREAS, Highly regarded by all who know him, Mr. Oden has
  built a life that is remarkably rich in accomplishments and
  meaningful service to others, and it is a pleasure to honor him on
  101 years of life well lived; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate John L. Oden on the joyous occasion
  of his 101st birthday and extend to him best wishes for continued
  happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Oden as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
