R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Four powerlifting athletes from Banquete High
  School made impressive showings at the state meets held in March
  2007; and
         WHEREAS, Due to their success in regional competition, senior
  Natalie Ysassi and junior Amanda Breland qualified to compete
  against other 2A athletes in the Texas High School Women's
  Powerlifting Association state meet, which was held in Killeen on
  March 17; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Ysassi claimed the state title in the 123-pound
  weight division by lifting a total of 740 pounds; Ms. Breland, who
  competes in the 198-pound class, demonstrated great tenacity in
  winning a hard-fought battle for third place with a combined total
  of 850 pounds; and
         WHEREAS, Banquete's state qualifiers among the boys' lifters
  were senior Richard Garcia and junior Michael Luna, and they both
  earned a trip to the Texas High School Powerlifting Association
  State Championships on March 24 in Houston; and
         WHEREAS, Besting the other Division 3 competitors in the
  114-pound weight division, Mr. Luna won the Bulldogs' second
  powerlifting championship for 2007, hefting 980 pounds; Mr. Garcia
  won the respect of his super heavyweight foes by clearing 1,595
  pounds and finishing fourth; and
         WHEREAS, Proving that they have the determination and skill
  to stand with the finest lifters in the state, these four Banquete
  student-athletes have established their school as a respected name
  in the sport, and their outstanding performances will remain a
  source of pride for each of them in the years to come; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the powerlifters from Banquete
  High School for their exceptional performances at the 2007 state
  meets and extend to them best wishes for success in all their future
  endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for these fine athletes as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
