R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The year 2007 marks the 25th anniversary of Wills |
|
Point International Outreach Church, the church home of our |
|
distinguished colleague, State Representative Betty Brown; and |
|
WHEREAS, Pastor Michael Williams and his wife, Brenda, were |
|
encouraged to organize a church in Wills Point after hosting a |
|
series of Bible-study seminars there; eventually, land was secured |
|
and congregants completed the building of a sanctuary, where they |
|
met for the first time on Easter Sunday, March 30, 1986; and |
|
WHEREAS, For several years, the church worked to pay down its |
|
debt, while also supporting many local, national, and foreign |
|
missions; at its 15th anniversary celebration, guest minister Dr. |
|
Jerry Savelle felt led to pay the remaining balance, and the church |
|
has been debt free ever since; it has given more than $1 million to |
|
missions in the last 10 years alone; and |
|
WHEREAS, Church members support a number of worthwhile |
|
programs, including the annual Hallelujah Night, which serves as a |
|
Christian alternative to Halloween and has grown to include some |
|
4,000 participants since beginning in 1997; moreover, the church |
|
campus continues to expand, thanks to a donation of more than 40 |
|
acres, and will soon be home to a gymnasium/auditorium; and |
|
WHEREAS, Wills Point International Outreach Church has |
|
provided steadfast spiritual and moral guidance to the community it |
|
serves for a quarter-century, and its continued existence is a |
|
tribute to the commitment and faith of both its members and its |
|
leaders; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 25th anniversary of Wills Point |
|
International Outreach Church and extend to all those associated |
|
with the church sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Wills Point International Outreach Church as an |
|
expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
