R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A 50th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of love |
|
and shared experiences, and Arthur and Jane Day of Austin are |
|
celebrating this joyous milestone in their marriage on August 31, |
|
2007; and |
|
WHEREAS, Arthur W. Day and the former Jane E. Hamer were |
|
joined in matrimony in 1957 at Perrin Air Force Base in Sherman; |
|
through the years, they have been blessed with a treasured family |
|
that includes two sons, Dan and Derrick Day, two daughters, Holly |
|
Chapman and Susan Hedrick, and five grandchildren, Duncan, Dylan, |
|
and Madison Day and Mathew and Christopher Chapman; and |
|
WHEREAS, The couple first met in 1956 in Landschtul, Germany, |
|
where Mr. Day was serving as a U.S. Air Force fighter pilot and Mrs. |
|
Day was a Department of Defense elementary school teacher; as a |
|
career military family, they made many moves around the country and |
|
world, which they considered family adventures; they resided at |
|
different times in Texas, Germany, Alabama, South Carolina, |
|
Arizona, Louisiana, California, Hawaii, North Carolina, and |
|
Taiwan; and |
|
WHEREAS, For more than 30 years, Mr. Day served his country as |
|
a distinguished air force officer, flying P-47s in World War II, |
|
F-86s in the Korean War, and F-100s in the Vietnam War, before |
|
retiring to Austin; Mrs. Day, always the supportive officer's wife, |
|
made a wonderful home for the family wherever they were stationed; |
|
she was the family rock, especially when Mr. Day was called to |
|
Vietnam; her husband's retirement allowed her to pursue her own |
|
business interest, and with her dear friend, Barbara Vito, she |
|
successfully owned and operated the Eagle Nest Café in Austin, |
|
providing fine lunches for businessmen and businesswomen, UT |
|
students, professors, and musicians; and |
|
WHEREAS, Looking back over the past five decades, Arthur and |
|
Jane Day can savor a wealth of cherished family memories and know |
|
that the strength of their love and commitment serves as an |
|
inspiration to all who know them; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Arthur and Jane Day on the occasion |
|
of their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best |
|
wishes for continued happiness together; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Day as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
