R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Linda Isela Figueroa has been named valedictorian of
  the Class of 2007 at Edinburg High School, and for achieving this
  significant honor, she indeed merits special recognition; and
         WHEREAS, Earning the title of valedictorian requires not only
  intellect and aptitude, but four years of dedication to the highest
  academic standards; the student who garners this coveted
  distinction must demonstrate a thorough understanding of a wide
  range of subjects, from math and science to language arts and social
  studies, yet the rewards of the countless hours of study and
  preparation are myriad; and
         WHEREAS, The daughter of proud parents Dr. Leo Figueroa and
  Martha Figueroa, Ms. Figueroa has excelled in both academics and
  extracurricular activities; she has been a member of a number of
  organizations, including the student council, Health Occupations
  Students of America, and the National Honor Society and has served
  as senior class treasurer; honored with a host of scholarships and
  accepted to a number of universities, she will attend The
  University of Texas--Pan American and Baylor College of Medicine
  before pursuing a career as a surgeon; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Figueroa has earned the respect and admiration
  of her teachers and classmates at Edinburg High School, and her
  exceptional scholastic ability, hard work, and commitment to
  excellence are exemplary; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Linda Isela Figueroa on being named
  the 2007 valedictorian for Edinburg High School and extend to her
  best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Figueroa as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
