R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Irene Pena Villarreal of San Antonio died on |
|
November 19, 2006, leaving her circle of family and friends with |
|
many treasured memories of time spent in her company; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born on June 28, 1930, Mrs. Villarreal grew up in |
|
Fort Stockton, where she was among the top students in her high |
|
school graduating class; she attended college for a year but was |
|
unable to continue for financial reasons, and she moved to San |
|
Antonio to take classes at Duruy Business School, where she met her |
|
future husband, Alejandro P. Villarreal; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through the years, Mr. Villarreal was often |
|
overseas as a member of the armed forces, and Mrs. Villarreal |
|
worked in many different jobs to help support the family, |
|
eventually becoming a licensed real estate broker and agent; she |
|
was determined that her children would receive the best education |
|
available, and she sent them to private Catholic schools; her dream |
|
for her family was realized when her four children earned a total of |
|
seven college degrees, both at the undergraduate and graduate |
|
levels; she had the same wish for her grandchildren, and she worked |
|
hard to pay for their private Catholic schooling as well; and |
|
WHEREAS, A dedicated wife and mother, Mrs. Villarreal was |
|
inspired by her Catholic faith and in particular, by the figure of |
|
Our Lady of Guadalupe; after her husband became disabled, she |
|
lovingly embraced her role as his full-time caretaker; she also |
|
took pleasure in attending her children's and grandchildren's plays |
|
and special events, and she frequently found ways to let them know |
|
how much she loved them; and |
|
WHEREAS, Irene Villarreal lived a caring and purposeful life, |
|
and she often put her loved ones' needs above her own; her |
|
dedication to nurturing the members of her family and helping them |
|
achieve their goals leaves a lasting legacy of love and hope that |
|
those she left behind will always treasure; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Irene Pena Villarreal |
|
and offer condolences to the members of her family: to her husband, |
|
Alejandro P. Villarreal; to her children, Rose Cecile Villarreal, |
|
Mary Latrecka Jensen and her husband, Ron, Edward A. Villarreal and |
|
his wife, Delia, and Peter A. Villarreal and his wife, Patricia; to |
|
her grandchildren, Amanda and Eric Villarreal and Irena and Reese |
|
Jensen; to her siblings, Mary P. Sotelo, Elena P. Gallego and her |
|
husband, Pete, and Pete P. Pena; and to her other relatives and |
|
friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Irene |
|
Villarreal. |
