R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Beverly Humphrey and the Lancaster High School girls
  track and field team set a new record by winning the school's
  seventh consecutive Class 4A state title at the 2007 UIL State Track
  and Field Championship in Austin; and
         WHEREAS, The athletic director and head coach of the girls
  track team, Coach Humphrey has ably guided the Lady Tigers to
  unprecedented success in the realm of Texas high school sports, and
  in honor of this superlative achievement the school's stadium was
  renamed Beverly D. Humphrey Tiger Stadium on May 19, 2007; and
         WHEREAS, One of only six female athletic directors in the
  Dallas-Fort Worth area, Coach Humphrey holds the distinction of
  being the first African American coach to be hired at Lancaster High
  School; for 20 years she has coached student-athletes in both track
  and volleyball, and her impressive success has rightly earned her
  the respect and admiration of students and peers alike; and
         WHEREAS, Children are our state's most precious resource, and
  Beverly Humphrey has endeavored to instill in the students of
  Lancaster High School a sense of self-worth and pride; her
  achievements in that effort indeed merit special recognition; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Beverly Humphrey for leading the Lancaster
  High School girls track and field team to its seventh consecutive
  state title and commend her on her superlative achievements as an
  administrator, educator, and coach; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Coach Humphrey as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
