R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Countless lives were touched by the kindness and joy
  of Helen Trahan Sharpe, who passed away on April 18, 2007; and
         WHEREAS, Born on September 21, 1912, Helen Sharpe was raised
  in Vinton, Louisiana; recognized for her intelligence, she was
  allowed to skip several grades and graduated at the top of her high
  school class; she attended nursing school at St. Joseph's Infirmary
  and was a very active member of the student body, editing the
  yearbook, playing lead roles in plays, and serving as class poet;
  and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Sharpe completed her nursing degree and began
  her professional career at St. Joseph's Hospital, taking great
  satisfaction in the high-pressure responsibilities of the
  emergency room; she later worked for Shell Oil Company and met her
  husband, Clarence Sharpe, there; the couple lovingly raised three
  children and spent more than 50 years together before Mr. Sharpe
  passed away in 1993; and
         WHEREAS, A vibrant woman, Mrs. Sharpe enjoyed bridge, music,
  and dancing; she and Mr. Sharpe were well traveled and had visited
  most of the continents and had been to Hong Kong 13 times over the
  years; she was a devout Catholic, and her involvement in her parish
  provided her with a great source of strength and hope; and
         WHEREAS, Held in the highest regard by all who knew her, Mrs.
  Sharpe brought a generosity of spirit to her work as a nurse and to
  her activities as a wife and mother, and she built a life that was
  remarkably rich in adventure, love, and enjoyable experiences; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Helen Trahan Sharpe
  and offer condolences to the members of her family: to her children,
  Anne, Patrick and his wife, Joanie, and Tim and his wife, Pat; to
  her grandchildren, Rush, Natalie, and Kelly; and to her other
  relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Helen
  Sharpe.
