R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Ruth Lott has been honored with the Distinguished |
|
Lifetime Achievement Award from the Mineola Chamber of Commerce in |
|
recognition of her decades of service to her community; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native West Texan, Mrs. Lott attended Southern |
|
Methodist University and met David Lott, a fourth-generation |
|
Mineolan, at a freshman mixer at Highland Park Methodist Church; |
|
the pair married during World War II and moved to Mineola in 1954, |
|
with their young son, David, in tow; and |
|
WHEREAS, Since adopting that community as her hometown more |
|
than half a century ago, Mrs. Lott has established herself as one of |
|
Mineola's most valued and actively engaged citizens; honored as the |
|
city's first Woman of the Year only three years after her arrival, |
|
she was the first to appear downtown with a broom to sweep glass |
|
from the streets after the 1962 Mineola tornado; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Lott has been a valued member of numerous civic |
|
organizations; she has given of her time and talents as a member of |
|
the inaugural Civic Center Board and as president of the PEO Chapter |
|
CU, the Twentieth Century Club, and the Delphian Literary Club; she |
|
played an instrumental role in establishing the Mineola Historical |
|
Museum in the old post office and, together with her mother-in-law, |
|
Mrs. Lott assisted with plans for the Mineola Memorial Library, |
|
which she currently serves as a board member; moreover, she is a |
|
longtime congregant of First United Methodist Church; and |
|
WHEREAS, In addition to supporting and promoting all things |
|
Mineola, Mrs. Lott enjoys playing bridge, cooking, and traveling |
|
all over the world; she especially finds great joy in the company of |
|
her family, which today includes her son, David Hix Lott, Jr., and |
|
his wife, Lynne, as well as two grandchildren, David and Kathryn; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, The strength of our communities depends on |
|
individuals like Ruth Lott, whose tireless service in behalf of her |
|
friends and neighbors in Mineola over the past 54 years has |
|
contributed immeasurably to the city; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Ruth Lott on her receipt of the |
|
Mineola Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Lifetime Achievement |
|
Award and extend to her best wishes for the future; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mrs. Lott as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
