R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Emily Rose Smith of Chalk Bluff has been named a |
|
National Merit Commended Scholar; and |
|
WHEREAS, Established in 1955, the National Merit Scholarship |
|
Program honors less than one percent of all high school seniors each |
|
year, based on their scores on the Preliminary Scholastic |
|
Assessment Test; the designation represents an opportunity for |
|
young men and women to compete for scholarship awards and win entry |
|
into some of the nation's best schools; and |
|
WHEREAS, A senior at Vanguard College Preparatory School in |
|
Waco, Ms. Smith is the daughter of Roger and Dottie Smith; she is a |
|
National Debate semifinalist and a member of the National Honor |
|
Roll, the National Society of High School Scholars, and Who's Who |
|
Among American High School Students; and |
|
WHEREAS, Emily Smith has demonstrated exceptional |
|
intelligence, initiative, and maturity in pursuing her academic |
|
goals, and it is appropriate to take this opportunity to commend her |
|
on her academic achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Emily Rose Smith on her selection |
|
as a National Merit Commended Scholar and extend to her sincere best |
|
wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Smith as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
