H.R. No. 2808

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, A. J. Moore Academy senior Luis Maldonado has been duly recognized with the 2007 Outstanding Youth Citizenship Award from the Waco Rotary Club; and

WHEREAS, Honored for his embodiment of the Rotary Club motto of "service beyond self," as well as his triumph in overcoming significant obstacles, Mr. Maldonado was selected from among students across McLennan County to earn this prestigious honor; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Maldonado is in the top 20 percent of his class and has distinguished himself as a dedicated and civic-minded citizen through his volunteer work; his efforts have included helping area families file their tax returns, as well as service with the Waco City Council and Waco Youth Council; and

WHEREAS, This accomplished young Texan is the first Hispanic male to receive the Rotary accolade and the first member of his family to graduate from high school; he is also a recipient of a Congressional Award for Community Service from U.S. Congressman Chet Edwards; and

WHEREAS, Luis Maldonado has achieved well-deserved recognition for his efforts in behalf of others, and he may indeed look ahead with optimism and anticipation toward a future bright with promise; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Luis Maldonado on his receipt of the Waco Rotary Club Outstanding Youth Citizenship Award and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Maldonado as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
