R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The life of a distinguished U.S. Army veteran and |
|
successful entrepreneur came to a close with the untimely death of |
|
Frederick A. Cannan on June 7, 2005; and |
|
WHEREAS, Fred Cannan was born on September 18, 1969, in |
|
Hialeah, Florida; in 1988, he graduated from Barron Collier High |
|
School, where he was a member of the wrestling team and a two-time |
|
state champion, and he went on to earn a bachelor's degree in |
|
history at the University of South Florida; and |
|
WHEREAS, For 12 years, Fred Cannan served as an Army Ranger; |
|
he fought in Iraq during Operation Desert Storm and also during |
|
Operation Iraqi Freedom, in which he was a primary war planner with |
|
the 3-15 Infantry; in the course of his military career, he received |
|
the Bronze Star, the George C. Marshall Award, and the Presidential |
|
Unit Citation, among other accolades, and he retired with the rank |
|
of captain; in addition, he was a member of the All Army Wrestling |
|
Team, and his considerable skill in that sport allowed him the |
|
opportunity to compete in the U.S. Olympic trials; and |
|
WHEREAS, After retiring from the armed forces, Fred Cannan |
|
drew on his military experience as cofounder of the adventure-based |
|
training company Odyssey Experiences, which he served as chief |
|
operations officer; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Fred Cannan enjoyed the |
|
support of his wife, Marie, and their two children; in his leisure |
|
time, he loved to ride his motorcycle, go fishing, play golf, and |
|
visit with his friends; and |
|
WHEREAS, Held in the highest regard by all who knew him, Fred |
|
Cannan ably served his country in two wars, and he built a life that |
|
was remarkably rich in family, friends, and accomplishments; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Frederick A. Cannan |
|
and offer sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |
|
wife, Marie Cannan; to his children, Hunter Nathaniel Cannan and |
|
Cory Evan Cannan; to his parents, George and Miriam Cannan; to his |
|
siblings, Shawn Cannan and his wife, Dana, and Kerri Cannan; to his |
|
parents-in-law, Elias and Nellie Seda; to his sisters-in-law, Saudi |
|
Cantwell and her husband, Keith, and Ericka Ehling and her husband, |
|
Jim; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Fred |
|
Cannan. |
