R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The members of Canton Methodist Church celebrated |
|
the congregation's 150th anniversary in 2006; and |
|
WHEREAS, Officially organized in 1856, Canton Methodist's |
|
first building was a one-room facility partially paid for by |
|
chicken dinners prepared and sold by the Ladies Aid Society; and |
|
WHEREAS, The church has grown considerably throughout the |
|
past 15 decades; to better serve its congregants and community, |
|
Canton Methodist now sponsors such worthwhile initiatives as Kids |
|
Crossing, parents' day out, weekly Bible study, nursing home |
|
outreach, United Methodist Men, and United Methodist Women; members |
|
also enjoy active youth, recreation, and music programs; and |
|
WHEREAS, Canton Methodist Church has served as a source of |
|
strength and inspiration to generations of worshippers, and the |
|
celebration of its 150th anniversary is a tribute to the faith and |
|
dedication of its members, both past and present, who have devoted |
|
their time, prayers, and resources to ensure its continued |
|
existence; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Canton Methodist Church on its 150th |
|
anniversary and extend to the congregation sincere best wishes for |
|
the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
