| WHEREAS, Toni Wellhausen has demonstrated the importance of | ||
| participation in the legislative process through her advocacy of | ||
| enriched natural science instruction for Texas schoolchildren; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A fifth-grade teacher at Ortiz Elementary School in | ||
| Abilene, Ms. Wellhausen supported the passage of House Bill 1700, | ||
| which called for the State Board of Education to develop a nature | ||
| science curriculum with the Outdoor School at Texas Tech University | ||
| Center at Junction, the Texas Science, Technology, Engineering, and | ||
| Math (T-STEM) Center of Texas Tech University, and South Llano | ||
| River State Park; and | ||
| WHEREAS, She attended both house and senate committee | ||
| hearings on the legislation, and her enthusiasm and heartfelt | ||
| desire to expand the learning horizon for young minds was evident in | ||
| the articulate and informed testimony she offered in behalf of | ||
| House Bill 1700; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Thanks in part to her contributions, the bill was | ||
| passed unanimously through committee and both chambers of the Texas | ||
| Legislature; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Ms. Wellhausen's constructive educational activism | ||
| provides an inspiring model for all Texas teachers, and her | ||
| outstanding efforts will undoubtedly benefit young Texans for years | ||
| to come; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby commend Toni Wellhausen for her participation in | ||
| the legislative process and extend to her sincere best wishes for | ||
| the future; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Ms. Wellhausen as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
