R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Locally owned businesses are the heart of the
  economy and culture of the small towns of Texas, and the historic
  Stagecoach Inn in Salado has contributed greatly to the picturesque
  appeal of that community for nearly 150 years; and
         WHEREAS, Originally known as the Shady Villa, the inn was
  founded in 1861 by early settler W. B. Armstrong on the site of a
  Tonkawa village; it stood at the junction of the Chisholm Trail and
  the Old Military Road and functioned as a stagecoach stop for weary
  travelers; legend has it that the inn was host to such notables as
  Sam Houston, General George Custer, Charles Goodnight, and the
  outlaw Sam Bass; and
         WHEREAS, The inn was bought and restored in the 1940s by Ruth
  and Dion Van Bibber, and Mrs. Van Bibber's recipes are still the
  basis of the Stagecoach Inn's menu; the facility was expanded in the
  1960s by Mrs. Van Bibber's nephew, William E. Bratton, to include
  conference facilities, swimming pools, and tennis courts, among
  other amenities; and
         WHEREAS, Now owned and managed by the Foster family of
  Salado, the Stagecoach Inn carries on its long tradition of Lone
  Star graciousness, comfort, and fine cuisine, helping to make
  Salado a prime tourist destination in Central Texas; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the Stagecoach Inn for its rich heritage
  of hospitality and extend to the Foster family and the inn's staff
  best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Stagecoach Inn as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
