R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Corinne Saldana, principal of Oliver Wendell Holmes |
|
|
High School in San Antonio, is retiring at the close of the |
|
|
2006-2007 school year, having dedicated 33 years to her beloved |
|
|
Huskies; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Saldana graduated from Southwest Texas State |
|
|
University with degrees in Spanish and math in 1970; that same year, |
|
|
she embarked on her career in education, initially teaching at |
|
|
Edison High School in San Antonio, and in 1974 she joined the |
|
|
faculty at Holmes High School; her abilities gained the respect of |
|
|
her peers, and she was appointed chair of the math department in |
|
|
1980; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, To further her education, Ms. Saldana earned a |
|
|
master's degree in educational administration from The University |
|
|
of Texas at San Antonio in 1982; in 1994 she was named assistant |
|
|
principal at Holmes High, and in 2002 she was made academic dean; |
|
|
the following year, she received her final promotion to principal, |
|
|
and she has ably led the school in the years since; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Ms. Saldana enjoys the love |
|
|
and support of her husband, Al, and her children, Marc and Jennifer, |
|
|
as well as her grandchildren, Kyla Corinne and McKenzie Laurel; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Devoting oneself to the education of young people is |
|
|
an admirable pursuit that is vital to the future of our great state |
|
|
and nation, and it is a pleasure to commend Corinne Saldana for her |
|
|
nearly 40-year tenure in public education in Texas; now, therefore, |
|
|
be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Corinne Saldana on her outstanding |
|
|
career as an educator and extend best wishes to her for a happy and |
|
|
fulfilling retirement; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Saldana as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
