R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The hard work of Keep Katy Beautiful has been
  recognized with a 2007 Governor's Community Achievement Award
  (GCAA), one of nine announced on May 22, 2007; and
         WHEREAS, Keep Katy Beautiful is affiliated with Keep Texas
  Beautiful, a nonprofit organization with 340 affiliates around the
  state that are devoted to environmental and community improvement;
  the annual GCAA winners are chosen by Keep Texas Beautiful and
  receive a share of $1 million provided by the Texas Department of
  Transportation for state right-of-way landscaping projects; and
         WHEREAS, Founded in 1993, Keep Katy Beautiful this year
  sponsored a number of successful projects and events, including the
  Paint-a-Can Project, a plastic bottle recycling program at Katy
  High School football games, the Plant a Flower Day and Arbor Day
  partnership with Hutsell Elementary School and Wal-Mart, and the
  annual Don't Mess with Texas Trash-Off; and
         WHEREAS, Along with the 2007 GCAA, the group has also been
  recognized this year with the President's Circle Award from Keep
  America Beautiful, the Gold Star Affiliate Award from Keep Texas
  Beautiful, and the Keep Texas Beautiful Lifetime Achievement Award
  for member Kay Callender; and
         WHEREAS, Keep Katy Beautiful is ably led by Chairman Sandy
  Schmidt, Vice Chairman Kay Callender, Secretary Jamie Wolman, and
  board members Albert Thompson, Sharon Rhoads, Patti Hanson, Debbie
  Berger, Kathy Wiesner, Elaine Lutringer, Dixie McDonald, and
  Jacalyn Warner; the group has enjoyed the support of Katy mayors and
  many city council members throughout its existence and also
  receives outstanding assistance from Katy parks director Jennifer
  Archer and the Public Works Department; and
         WHEREAS, Through their exceptional vision and tireless
  efforts, the members of Keep Katy Beautiful have contributed
  immeasurably to enhancing the physical environment of their city,
  and the fruits of their efforts will give pleasure to their fellow
  citizens for years to come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Keep Katy Beautiful for winning a
  2007 Governor's Community Achievement Award and extend to the group
  sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Keep Katy Beautiful as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
