R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Don Elder, Jr., was elected mayor of Katy on May 12,
  2007, earning more than 60 percent of the votes cast in the
  election; and
         WHEREAS, A former city council member, Mr. Elder took office
  on May 22 and has embraced the duties of his challenging new post
  with enthusiasm and dedication; and
         WHEREAS, Mayor Elder is a graduate of Katy High School and
  earned both a bachelor's degree and a master of education degree at
  Sam Houston State University; a man of diverse skills and
  experience, he worked in sales and marketing in the ready-mix
  industry for more than 30 years, and he owns a consulting firm that
  specializes in education and governmental issues; moreover, he has
  a distinguished history of public service, including two terms as a
  trustee for the Katy Independent School District and 10 years as a
  member of the board for the Harris County Department of Education,
  where he twice served as president; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan is active in numerous community
  organizations as well, including the Katy Athletic Booster Club,
  the Katy High School Alumni Association, the Katy Area A&M Club, and
  Katy FFA, and he shares his time and talents as a member of the
  Economic Development Board and the development board of Houston
  Community College; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Elder enjoys the love and
  support of his wife, Ida Faye, with whom he has shared more than 40
  years of marriage; and
         WHEREAS, Don Elder's vision and leadership will surely
  benefit the community he is proud to call home, and his desire to
  serve others and work toward the greater good has set an inspiring
  example for his fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Don Elder, Jr., on his election as
  mayor of Katy and extend to him sincere best wishes for a productive
  and rewarding tenure in office; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mayor Elder as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
