R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Jacqueline Renee Valdez has been named salutatorian
  of the Class of 2007 at Weslaco East High School, and for achieving
  this significant honor, she indeed merits special recognition; and
         WHEREAS, Earning the title of salutatorian requires not only
  intellect and aptitude, but four years of dedication to the highest
  academic standards; the student who garners this coveted
  distinction must demonstrate a thorough understanding of a wide
  range of subjects, from math and science to language arts and social
  studies, yet the rewards of the countless hours of study and
  preparation are myriad; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Valdez has excelled in both academics and
  extracurricular activities throughout her tenure at Weslaco East
  High School; a member of the National Honor Society, woodwind
  captain of the Wildcat Regiment Band, and varsity captain of the
  Lady Wildcat basketball team, she has participated in track and
  field and volunteered with her church and the American Cancer
  Society; her efforts have earned her a number of accolades,
  including the Rotary Leadership Award and the U.S. Army National
  Scholar/Athlete Award, as well as all-district and MVP honors in
  basketball; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Valdez has earned the respect and admiration of
  her teachers and classmates at Weslaco East High School, and her
  exceptional scholastic ability, hard work, and commitment to
  excellence have surely opened the way to limitless opportunities
  for this remarkable young Texan; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Jacqueline Renee Valdez on being
  named the 2007 salutatorian for Weslaco East High School and extend
  to her best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Valdez as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
