R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, After 15 years of exemplary service as a state
  police officer with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission,
  Sergeant Arthur A. Valdez is retiring; and
         WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Houston, Art Valdez is a
  former sergeant with the patrol division of the Houston Police
  Department, and his law enforcement training has benefited him
  greatly in his efforts as an agent with the TABC; and
         WHEREAS, Sergeant Valdez has been affiliated with the TABC
  since January 6, 1992, and he has worked diligently to curb underage
  alcohol consumption and to increase awareness of the hazards
  associated with this problem; and
         WHEREAS, Noted for his work in educating children, parents,
  and peace officers, Sergeant Valdez has helped to enlighten
  thousands of individuals through his participation in MADD Youth
  Power Camps, the TABC-sponsored Project SAVE, and the Shattered
  Dreams program; and
         WHEREAS, Promoted to sergeant on May 1, 2004, and
  subsequently assigned to the Houston district office, this dynamic
  gentleman was responsible for reviewing administrative cases and
  holding settlement conferences; he also continued to teach courses
  at the Houston Police Department Academy despite the new demands of
  his administrative post; and
         WHEREAS, Sergeant Valdez was reassigned to the field in
  October 2006 and was charged with supervising a newly created team
  of six agents, which he dubbed "the A-Team"; his team soon proved to
  be one of the elite groups in the commission's Houston district,
  thanks in no small part to Sergeant Valdez's outstanding training;
  and
         WHEREAS, Through his expert leadership and commitment to
  excellence, Sergeant Art Valdez has gained the respect and
  admiration of those who have been fortunate enough to work with him,
  and he can look back on his many achievements with justifiable pride
  and satisfaction; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize Sergeant Arthur A. Valdez on the
  occasion of his retirement from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage
  Commission and commend him for his many years of dedicated service
  to the citizens of Houston and the State of Texas; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Sergeant Valdez as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
