R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, St. John's Episcopal School eighth-grader Madeleine
  Ball of White Rock won Best of Fair at the Exxon Mobil Texas Science
  and Engineering Fair, which was held in San Antonio April 6 and 7,
  2007; and
         WHEREAS, Her project, Coping with Copepods, explored whether
  these crustaceans, which are present in most water sources, could
  terminate mosquito larvae and commercial pesticides and possibly
  help control outbreaks of the West Nile virus; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Ball also won First Grand Prize in the Life
  Science category in San Antonio, and with her state win, she has
  been invited to participate in the ESI 2007 Science Fair in Durban,
  South Africa, this summer; in addition to these honors, she was
  recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency and nominated for
  the Discovery Channel Young Scientist Award; and
         WHEREAS, Madeleine Ball's curiosity, intelligence, and
  creativity show her to be an extraordinary young Texan who may
  indeed look forward to a future bright with promise; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Madeleine Ball on winning Best of
  Fair at the 2007 Exxon Mobil Texas Science and Engineering Fair and
  extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Ball as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
