R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Stephanie Schnabel has been named valedictorian of |
|
|
the Class of 2007 at La Porte High School, and for achieving this |
|
|
significant honor, she indeed merits special recognition; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Earning the title of valedictorian requires not only |
|
|
intellect and aptitude, but four years of dedication to the highest |
|
|
academic standards; the student who garners this coveted |
|
|
distinction must demonstrate a thorough understanding of a wide |
|
|
range of subjects, from math and science to language arts and social |
|
|
studies, yet the rewards of the countless hours of study and |
|
|
preparation are myriad; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In addition to the pride inherent in being |
|
|
recognized as the highest achieving student in the class, the |
|
|
valedictorian is frequently the recipient of scholarships and |
|
|
grants; she also gains the opportunity to address her fellow |
|
|
seniors at commencement and to reflect on their shared history as |
|
|
well as their hopes and ambitions for the future; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of proud parents Kirby and Patricia |
|
|
Schnabel, Stephanie Schnabel earned a 5.24 grade point average |
|
|
during high school; she is a member of the National Honor Society |
|
|
and the vice president of the local chapter of the Mu Alpha Theta |
|
|
mathematics honor society, and she teaches calculus II to high |
|
|
school and college students through a grant from San Jacinto |
|
|
College; Ms. Schnabel has also taken part in extracurricular |
|
|
activities, serving as a dance lieutenant with the band color |
|
|
guard, playing viola in the orchestra, and serving as secretary of |
|
|
the organization Outreach to People Everywhere; she intends to |
|
|
study premed and biology studies at Baylor University; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Stephanie Schnabel has earned the respect and |
|
|
admiration of her teachers and classmates at La Porte High, and her |
|
|
exceptional scholastic ability, hard work, and commitment to |
|
|
excellence have surely opened the way to limitless opportunities |
|
|
for this remarkable young Texan; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Stephanie Schnabel on being named |
|
|
the 2007 valedictorian for La Porte High School and extend to her |
|
|
best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Schnabel as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
