R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Honorable George E. West is a man of courage,
  conviction, strong ideals, and great faith, and he has demonstrated
  these admirable qualities throughout his notable career in public
  service; and
         WHEREAS, "Buddy" West was elected to the Texas House of
  Representatives in 1992; currently a member of the House Committees
  on Environmental Regulation and Law Enforcement, he has chaired the
  House Committee on Energy Resources and served as vice chair of
  Appropriations and as a member of the House Committee on
  Transportation; and
         WHEREAS, He distinguished himself during a 30-year tenure
  with Amoco Production Company and became an expert in the fields of
  industry health, safety, and environmental issues; he was asked to
  chair the Energy Council and the Oil Field Cleanup Advisory
  Committee; and
         WHEREAS, Attending college later in life, Representative
  West became a beneficiary of the investment made by the State of
  Texas in higher education; he earned a bachelor of business
  administration degree from The University of Texas of the Permian
  Basin, and he continues to be a steadfast proponent of higher
  education development opportunities in West Texas and across the
  state; and
         WHEREAS, As a member of the Texas Legislature, Representative
  West has held membership in the House Rural Caucus, Texas
  Legislative Sportsman Caucus, Texas Conservative Coalition,
  Council of State Governments, National Conference of State
  Legislatures, and American Legislative Exchange Council; in
  addition, he founded the Child Pornography Task Force to combat the
  exploitation of innocent children; and
         WHEREAS, Desiring to enhance the quality of life for his
  fellow citizens, Buddy West is involved in numerous organizations,
  including the American Society of Safety Engineers, the Odessa
  Rotary Club, the Odessa Chamber of Commerce, and the First Baptist
  Church of Odessa; and
         WHEREAS, Representative West is a dedicated family man;
  married to his childhood sweetheart, Shirley, for 51 years, he is a
  dedicated father and father-in-law to Richie West, Lori and Wade
  Bennington, and Ami and Scott Satterwhite, and is a proud
  grandfather to Kelsee and Shelby West, Baylee Bennington, and
  Scotty, Lexi, Landon, and Laci Satterwhite; and
         WHEREAS, Buddy West continues to make a positive impact on
  the people and institutions of his community and state, and his
  service stands as an example of civic involvement that all can
  admire; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That in the days ahead, as he undergoes medical
  evaluation, the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend the Honorable George E. "Buddy" West for
  his exemplary public service thus far and wish him nothing but the
  best of health and happiness during the interim; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Representative West as an expression of high regard by
  his colleagues in the Texas House of Representatives.
