A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to a registry of allied health professionals.
       BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
       SECTION 1.  Chapter 105, Health and Safety Code, is amended
by adding Section 105.009 to read as follows:
       Sec. 105.009.  REGISTRY OF ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONALS. (a)
The council shall establish a registry for all allied health
professionals containing information to be used for health
workforce studies.
       (b)  The registry shall include the following information
about each allied health professional:
             (1)  educational background;
             (2)  profession;
             (3)  specialty, if any;
             (4)  place of practice; and
             (5)  full-time or part-time employment status.
       (c)  A state board, agency, or association that certifies,
registers, or licenses a health professional in this state shall
collect on behalf of the council the information required under
Subsection (b). The council and a state board, agency, or
association that collects data on behalf of the council may enter
into an interagency contract regarding the data collection.
       SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
