A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to a computerized map system containing the locations of
residences of registered sex offenders and premises where children
commonly gather.
       BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
       SECTION 1.  Subchapter A, Chapter 62, Code of Criminal
Procedure, is amended by adding Article 62.0051 to read as follows:
       Art. 62.0051.  COMPUTERIZED MAP SYSTEM; PUBLIC INFORMATION.
(a)  The department shall design, implement, and maintain a
computerized map system that contains, on the same map or maps, the
locations of:
             (1)  premises described by Section 13B(a)(1)(B),
Article 42.12; and
             (2)  residences of persons registered under this
chapter.
       (b)  The department shall include a link to the computerized
map system on any department Internet website through which the
public is able to access the computerized central database
maintained by the department under Article 62.005.
       (c)  Information included in the computerized map system is
public information.
       (d)  The department may cooperate with any other state agency
as necessary to:
             (1)  collect the information required to be included in
the computerized map system; and
             (2)  design, implement, and maintain the computerized
map system.
       SECTION 2.  The Department of Public Safety of the State of
Texas shall ensure that the computerized map system described by
Article 62.0051, Code of Criminal Procedure, as added by this Act,
is fully operational not later than January 1, 2008.
       SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
