A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
 
  relating to the duty of the judge of the 147th District Court to
  impanel grand juries and to the terms of court for certain district
  courts in Travis County.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Subsection (d), Section 24.155, Government Code,
  is amended to read as follows:
         (d)  The judges of the district courts [other than the 147th
  District Court] in Travis County do not have a duty to impanel grand
  juries but may impanel grand juries when they consider it
  necessary.
         SECTION 2.  Subsection (b), Section 24.248, Government Code,
  is amended to read as follows:
         (b)  The terms of the 147th District Court begin on the first
  Mondays in January and[, April,] July[, and October].
         SECTION 3.  Subsection (b), Section 24.264, Government Code,
  is amended to read as follows:
         (b)  The terms of the 167th District Court begin on the first
  Mondays in January [March] and July [September].
         SECTION 4.  Subsection (c), Section 24.248, Government Code,
  is repealed.
         SECTION 5.   This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
