A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to notice regarding the availability of programs under |
|
|
which a student may earn college credit in public schools. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 28, Education Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 28.010 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 28.010. NOTIFICATION REGARDING COLLEGE CREDIT |
|
|
PROGRAMS. Each school year, a school district shall provide |
|
|
written notification to the parent of each district student |
|
|
enrolled in grade nine or above of the availability of programs in |
|
|
the district under which a student may earn college credit, |
|
|
including advanced placement programs, dual credit programs, joint |
|
|
high school and college credit programs, and international |
|
|
baccalaureate programs. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2007-2008 |
|
|
school year. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
