A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to notice regarding the availability of programs under
which a student may earn college credit in public schools.
       BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
       SECTION 1.  Subchapter A, Chapter 28, Education Code, is
amended by adding Section 28.010 to read as follows:
       Sec. 28.010.  NOTIFICATION REGARDING COLLEGE CREDIT
PROGRAMS.  Each school year, a school district shall provide
written notification to the parent of each district student
enrolled in grade nine or above of the availability of programs in
the district under which a student may earn college credit,
including advanced placement programs, dual credit programs, joint
high school and college credit programs, and international
baccalaureate programs.
       SECTION 2.  This Act applies beginning with the 2007-2008
school year.
       SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
