A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to continuing education in sustainable and
  energy-efficient design standards for a person registered by the
  Texas Board of Architectural Examiners.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 1051.356, Occupations Code, is amended
  by amending Subsection (b) and adding Subsection (b-1) to read as
  follows:
         (b)  The continuing education programs:
               (1)  must include courses relating to sustainable or
  energy-efficient design standards; and
               (2)  may include courses relating to:
                     (A) [(1)]  health, safety, or welfare; or
                     (B) [(2)]  barrier-free design.
         (b-1)  As part of a certificate holder's continuing
  education requirements for each annual registration period, the
  board by rule shall require the certificate holder to complete at
  least one hour of continuing education relating to sustainable or
  energy-efficient design standards.
         SECTION 2.  The changes in law made by this Act apply only to
  an application for the renewal of a certificate of registration
  that is filed with the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners on or
  after September 1, 2008. An application for the renewal of a
  certificate of registration filed before September 1, 2008, is
  governed by the law in effect immediately before the effective date
  of this Act, and the former law is continued in effect for that
  purpose.
         SECTION 3.  Not later than January 1, 2008, the Texas Board
  of Architectural Examiners shall adopt rules, procedures, forms,
  and fees under Section 1051.356, Occupations Code, as amended by
  this Act.
         SECTION 4.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
