A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to providing notice of the anticipated fiscal impact of |
|
|
municipal charter amendments. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 9.004(c), Local Government Code, is |
|
|
amended to read as follows: |
|
|
(c) Notice of the election shall be published in a newspaper |
|
|
of general circulation published in the municipality. The notice |
|
|
must: |
|
|
(1) include a substantial copy of the proposed |
|
|
amendment; |
|
|
(2) include an estimate of the anticipated fiscal |
|
|
impact to the municipality if the proposed amendment is approved at |
|
|
the election; and |
|
|
(3) [(2)] be published on the same day in each of two |
|
|
successive weeks, with the first publication occurring before the |
|
|
14th day before the date of the election. |
|
|
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|
|
to an election for a charter amendment ordered on or after the |
|
|
effective date of this Act. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
