A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the licensing of court interpreters.
       BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
       SECTION 1.  Section 57.043, Government Code, is amended by
amending Subsection (b) and adding Subsection (b-1) to read as
follows:
       (b)  Except as provided by Subsection (b-1), the [The]
commission shall adopt rules relating to licensing under this
subchapter and the executive director shall prescribe all forms
required under this subchapter.
       (b-1) The commission by rule shall adopt the form of the
license to be issued under Subsection (a). A license must include a
designation of the category of trial courts in which the license
holder is licensed to interpret. The designation must be for at
least one of the following:
             (1)  the category of justice and municipal courts; or
             (2)  the category of county courts, statutory county
courts, statutory probate courts, and district courts.
       SECTION 2.  Section 57.043(b-1), Government Code, as added
by this Act, applies only to a court reporter license issued under
Section 57.043(a), Government Code, on or after the effective date
of this Act. A court reporter license issued before the effective
date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the date the
license was issued, and the former law is continued in effect for
that purpose.
       SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
