A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the licensing of court interpreters. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 57.043, Government Code, is amended by |
|
|
amending Subsection (b) and adding Subsection (b-1) to read as |
|
|
follows: |
|
|
(b) Except as provided by Subsection (b-1), the [The] |
|
|
commission shall adopt rules relating to licensing under this |
|
|
subchapter and the executive director shall prescribe all forms |
|
|
required under this subchapter. |
|
|
(b-1) The commission by rule shall adopt the form of the |
|
|
license to be issued under Subsection (a). A license must include a |
|
|
designation of the category of trial courts in which the license |
|
|
holder is licensed to interpret. The designation must be for at |
|
|
least one of the following: |
|
|
(1) the category of justice and municipal courts; or |
|
|
(2) the category of county courts, statutory county |
|
|
courts, statutory probate courts, and district courts. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Section 57.043(b-1), Government Code, as added |
|
|
by this Act, applies only to a court reporter license issued under |
|
|
Section 57.043(a), Government Code, on or after the effective date |
|
|
of this Act. A court reporter license issued before the effective |
|
|
date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the date the |
|
|
license was issued, and the former law is continued in effect for |
|
|
that purpose. |

|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
