A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
 
  relating to the amount of a judgment that may be appealed from small
  claims court.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Subsection (a), Section 28.052, Government Code,
  is amended to read as follows:
         (a)  If the amount in controversy, exclusive of costs,
  exceeds $250 [$20], a dissatisfied party may appeal the final
  judgment to the county court or county court at law.
         SECTION 2.  This Act applies only to a cause of action filed
  on or after the effective date of this Act. A cause of action filed
  before the effective date of this Act is governed by the law in
  effect at the time the cause of action was filed, and that law is
  continued in effect for that purpose.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
