A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to certain information in the computerized criminal
history system and the use of that information for reintegration
services.
       BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
       SECTION 1.  Article 60.051(a), Code of Criminal Procedure,
is amended to read as follows:
       (a)  Information in the computerized criminal history system
relating to an offender must include:
             (1)  the offender's name, including other names by
which the offender is known;
             (2)  the offender's date of birth;
             (3)  the offender's physical description, including
sex, weight, height, race, ethnicity, eye color, hair color, scars,
marks, and tattoos; [and]
             (4)  the offender's state identification number; and
             (5)  the offender's social security number, if any.
       SECTION 2.  Section 501.097, Government Code, is amended by
adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
       (c)  To ensure the efficient provision and evaluation of
reintegration services, the department shall obtain and verify and
provide to the Texas Workforce Commission the social security
number, if any, of each inmate described by Subsection (a).
       SECTION 3.  (a)  Article 60.051(a), Code of Criminal
Procedure, as amended by this Act, applies only to an entry made in
the computerized criminal history system regarding an offender on
or after the effective date of this Act. An entry made in the
computerized criminal history system before the effective date of
this Act is covered by the law in effect on the date the entry was
made, and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose.
       (b)  Section 501.097(c), Government Code, as added by this
Act, applies only to an inmate who is released on parole or other
conditional release on or after the effective date of this Act.  An
inmate released before the effective date of this Act is covered by
the law in effect on the date the inmate was released, and the
former law is continued in effect for that purpose.
       SECTION 4.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
