A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the assignment of school nurses at public school |
|
|
campuses. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 38, Education Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 38.020 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 38.020. NURSE ASSIGNMENT REQUIRED. (a) Each school |
|
|
district that has an enrollment of fewer than 500 students shall |
|
|
assign at least one full-time school nurse to each district campus. |
|
|
(b) Each school district that has an enrollment of at least |
|
|
500 students shall employ at least one full-time school nurse for |
|
|
each 500 students enrolled in the district. The district shall |
|
|
assign at least one full-time school nurse to each district campus |
|
|
and shall assign any additional school nurses based on the medical |
|
|
needs of students at a particular campus. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2007-2008 |
|
|
school year. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
