A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to requirements for participation in extracurricular
athletic activities.
       BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
       SECTION 1.  Subchapter D, Chapter 33, Education Code, is
amended by adding Section 33.092 to read as follows:
       Sec. 33.092.  PHYSICAL EXAMINATION REQUIRED FOR
PARTICIPATION IN EXTRACURRICULAR ATHLETIC ACTIVITY.  (a)  In this
section:
             (1)  "Physician" means a physician licensed under
Chapter 155, Occupations Code.
             (2)  "Physician assistant" means a person who is
licensed under Chapter 204, Occupations Code.
             (3)  "Advanced practice nurse" means a nurse authorized
by the Board of Nurse Examiners under Section 301.152, Occupations
Code.
       (b)  A Student may not participate in extracurricular
athletic activities sponsored by a school district unless the
student has submitted to the school district a completed form
indicating that the student has received a physical examination by
a physician, physician assistant, or advanced practice nurse.  The
form must be signed by the physician, physician assistant, or
advanced practice nurse and indicate that the examination
determined that the student does not have a medical condition that
would make it hazardous for the student to participate in the
athletic activity.
       (c)  The physical examination form required by Subsection
(a) must be submitted to the school district before the student may
participate in any athletic practice, scrimmage, game, or match.
       (d)  The University Interscholastic League shall adopt rules
to implement this section.
       SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
