A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to agreements between certain municipalities and counties
to provide law enforcement services in unincorporated areas.
       BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
       SECTION 1.  Chapter 362, Local Government Code, is amended
by adding Section 362.005 to read as follows:
       Sec. 362.005.  AGREEMENTS FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICES IN
UNINCORPORATED AREA OF CERTAIN COUNTIES.  (a) This section applies
only to a county with a population of one million or more in which
both the county and the largest municipality located in the county
have adopted Chapter 174.
       (b)  A county commissioners court by resolution may contract
with the largest municipality in the county to provide law
enforcement service to the unincorporated area of the county. A
police officer of the municipality has the same authority and
powers of arrest, search, and seizure as a deputy sheriff of the
county.
       SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
