A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the costs of conducting a civil commitment proceeding
for a sexually violent predator.
       BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
       SECTION 1.  Section 841.146(c), Health and Safety Code, is
amended to read as follows:
       (c)  The [In an amount not to exceed $2,500, the] State of
Texas shall pay all reasonable costs of:
             (1)  [associated with] a civil commitment proceeding
conducted under Subchapter D;
             (2)  [.  The State of Texas shall pay the reasonable
costs of] state or appointed counsel or experts for a [any other]
civil commitment proceeding conducted under Subchapter F or G;  and
             (3)  [this chapter and shall pay the reasonable costs
of] the person's outpatient treatment and supervision.
       SECTION 2.  The change in law made by this Act applies only
to an individual who on or after September 1, 2007, is serving a
sentence in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice or is
committed to the Department of State Health Services or the
Department of Aging and Disability Services for an offense
committed before, on, or after the effective date of this Act.
       SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
