A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the number of hours worked by a part-time fire
protection employee.
       BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
       SECTION 1.  Section 419.0321(e), Government Code, is amended
to read as follows:
       (e)  A part-time fire protection employee may not:
             (1)  work more than 24 hours a week or average more than
approximately 24 hours a week during a work cycle, as appropriate,
for an employing fire department; or
             (2)  work in duties related to fire suppression more
than:
                   (A)  500 hours a year for an employing fire
department, except as provided by Paragraph (B); or
                   (B)  1,000 scheduled hours a year for an employing
fire department with fewer than 5 full-time firefighters in a
municipality that assesses no city property tax [in duties related
to fire suppression].
       SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 14, 2007.
