SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
       WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas joins citizens
across our country in setting aside April 15 through 22 as the Days
of Remembrance in honor of the victims of the Holocaust; and
       WHEREAS, The history of the Holocaust offers an opportunity
to reflect on the moral responsibilities of individuals, societies,
and governments; and
       WHEREAS, The citizens of our state and nation should remember
the terrible events of the Holocaust and remain vigilant against
hatred, persecution, and tyranny; and
       WHEREAS, It is also of great importance that our citizens
become rededicated to the principles of individual freedom in a
just society; and
       WHEREAS, The Days of Remembrance have been set aside for the
people of our nation to remember the victims of the Holocaust as
well as to reflect on the need for respect of all peoples; and
       WHEREAS, Pursuant to an Act of Congress, the United States
Holocaust Memorial Council has designated the Days of Remembrance
of the victims of the Holocaust to be Sunday, April 15, through
Sunday, April 22, including the Day of Remembrance known as Yom
Hashoah, April 15; and
       WHEREAS, The theme of this year's Days of Remembrance is
"Children In Crisis:  Voices From The Holocaust," and all Texans are
encouraged to take part in its observance; in honor of this
significant occasion, Elie Wiesel, noted professor, Holocaust
survivor, and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize and Presidential
Medal of Freedom, is partaking in Days of Remembrance and its
observation at West Texas A&M University by serving as a special
guest speaker; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas
hereby proclaim the week of Sunday, April 15, through Sunday, April
22, 2007, as Days of Remembrance in memory of the victims of the
Holocaust and in honor of the survivors, rescuers, and liberators;
and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared in honor
of the Days of Remembrance.
Proclaiming April 15 through April 22, 2007, as Days of Remembrance
in memory of the Holocaust.
