CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
       WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Lawrence Wright, who has been awarded the 2007 Pulitzer
Prize for General Nonfiction for The Looming Tower:  Al-Qaeda and
the Road to 9/11; and
       WHEREAS, Lawrence Wright graduated from Tulane University in
New Orleans and earned a master's degree in applied linguistics
from the American University in Cairo; he began his writing career
at The Race Relations Reporter in Nashville, then wrote for
Southern Voices and Texas Monthly; he became a contributing editor
to Rolling Stone before joining the staff of The New Yorker; he has
written several screenplays and published six other books; and
       WHEREAS, The Looming Tower:  Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11 was
released in August of 2006 to widespread praise; the book spent
eight weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, was nominated for
the National Book Award, and won the Lionel Gelber Award and the J.
Anthony Lukas Book Prize; and
       WHEREAS, Among Mr. Wright's other books are In the New World:
Growing Up with America, 1960-1984, Remembering Satan, and God's
Favorite; he co-wrote the screenplay for The Siege, starring Denzel
Washington and Annette Bening; he truly deserves recognition for
his outstanding achievements; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas,
hereby commend Lawrence Wright for his many achievements and extend
congratulations to him on winning the Pulitzer Prize for General
Nonfiction; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for him
as an expression of high regard from the Texas Legislature.
