CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Bob Knight for his many contributions to the sport of
  basketball; and
         WHEREAS, With more wins to his record than any other head
  coach in National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I men's
  basketball history, Bob Knight of Texas Tech University has set the
  standard for coaching excellence; and
         WHEREAS, Coach Knight began his head coaching career at the
  United States Military Academy at West Point; he became the head
  coach at Indiana University in 1971, where his teams won three
  National Collegiate Athletic Association championships; he was
  named Big 10 Coach of the Year six times and National Coach of the
  Year four times during his tenure at Indiana University; and
         WHEREAS, In 2001, Coach Knight became the head coach at Texas
  Tech University, where he has led the Red Raiders to three National
  Collegiate Athletic Association tournaments while amassing a
  126-74 record; his overall record currently stands at 890-363; and
         WHEREAS, Known as his own man, Coach Knight exemplifies high
  principles and higher expectations, and he demands much of his
  players, his coaching staff, and above all, of himself; his
  reputation as an outstanding educator is cemented by the
  exceptional 98 percent graduation rate of his players; he deserves
  recognition for his dedication and his inspiring accomplishments;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby commend Bob Knight for being the all-time winningest head
  coach in National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I men's
  basketball history and extend to him best wishes in all his future
  endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for him
  as an expression of high regard from the Texas Legislature.
