SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas joins the |
|
citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Loretta Johnson |
|
Williams, who died April 24, 2007, at the age of 51; and |
|
WHEREAS, Loretta Johnson Williams was born March 29, 1956, in |
|
Saint Petersburg, Florida, to Erias and Sally Johnson; she |
|
graduated from Boca Ciega High School in Gulfport, Florida, in |
|
1974, and briefly attended Saint Petersburg Junior College before |
|
enrolling at Southwestern Christian College in Terrell, Texas, in |
|
1977; and |
|
WHEREAS, She became a vital presence on the Southwestern |
|
Christian College campus, taking part in many organizations, such |
|
as the Library Club, Mission Study, and the college's renowned a |
|
cappella chorus; she served as student body vice president and was |
|
crowned Miss Southwestern; she graduated from Abilene Christian |
|
University with a bachelor's degree in psychology in 1981; and |
|
WHEREAS, While attending Southwestern Christian College, she |
|
met her future husband, George Williams; George and Loretta were |
|
married on July 17, 1981, at the 20th Street Church of Christ in |
|
Saint Petersburg, Florida; the couple was blessed with three |
|
children, and the family moved to Austin in 1983 when George became |
|
the minister and evangelist of the East Side Church of Christ; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams was a devout Christian who practiced |
|
her faith in her daily life; she served the church as a Bible school |
|
teacher, a comarriage counselor with her husband, and the chairlady |
|
of the Ladies' Symposium; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams was devoted to her family, and her |
|
compassion, generosity, and wise counsel will be remembered by |
|
those who were fortunate enough to have shared in her love and |
|
friendship; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Loretta |
|
Johnson Williams: her husband, George Williams; her sons, George |
|
Micheal Williams II and Jason Sherrod Williams; her daughter, |
|
Katara Shanae Williams; her stepmother, Lula Johnson; her sister, |
|
Janice Walters; and her brothers, Edgar Wilcox, Sr., and Tyrone |
|
Johnson, Sr.; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for the |
|
members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the |
|
Texas Legislature, and that when the Texas House of Representatives |
|
and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of Loretta Johnson |
|
Williams. |
