A JOINT RESOLUTION
|
|
proposing a constitutional amendment to impose term limits on |
|
members of the legislature. |
|
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Article III, Texas Constitution, is amended by |
|
adding Section 7a to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 7a. (a) A person is not eligible to be elected to the |
|
legislature if the person has served as a member of the legislature |
|
during all or part of eight previous regular sessions of the |
|
legislature. |
|
(b) For a person elected to the legislature at an election |
|
that occurs during a regular session of the legislature who was not |
|
a member of the legislature for any previous part of that regular |
|
session, that session is not considered as a previous regular |
|
session for purposes of determining a person's eligibility under |
|
this section to be elected at that election. |
|
(c) Legislative service before the legislature convenes in |
|
regular session in 2009 is not counted in determining whether a |
|
person is disqualified from election to office under this section. |
|
SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be |
|
submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 6, 2007. |
|
The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the |
|
following proposition: "The constitutional amendment to impose |
|
term limits on members of the Texas Legislature." |
