A JOINT RESOLUTION
|
|
|
proposing a constitutional amendment authorizing the legislature |
|
|
to provide for the ad valorem taxation of land used for recreational |
|
|
purposes on the basis of a percentage of the market value of the |
|
|
land. |
|
|
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Article VIII, Texas Constitution, is amended by |
|
|
adding Section 1-d-2 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 1-d-2. To promote the preservation of land for |
|
|
recreational purposes, the legislature by general law may provide |
|
|
for the ad valorem taxation of land used for those purposes on the |
|
|
basis of a percentage, which may not be less than 20 percent, of the |
|
|
market value of the land. The legislature by general law may |
|
|
provide eligibility limitations under this section and may impose |
|
|
sanctions in furtherance of the taxation policy of this section. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be |
|
|
submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 6, 2007. |
|
|
The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the |
|
|
proposition: "The constitutional amendment authorizing the |
|
|
legislature to provide for the ad valorem taxation of land used for |
|
|
recreational purposes on the basis of a percentage of the market |
|
|
value of the land." |
